Le marchand de sable

The Sandman

What a long winter! If, like us, you’re really tired, and you wake up in the morning thinking what a delight it will be to crawl into bed at night, it’s time to take action!

Improve your sleep to recover better, and find breaks, even short ones, that help rest your body and mind…

Like two-thirds of the population, you too may have trouble sleeping?

In which case, even when you’re exhausted, you can’t fall asleep because the little bike is spinning in your head and it’s really hard to let go. Or you wake up in the middle of the night, or at dawn…

TiL is all about calming you down and helping you sleep, because what tree better than the linden tree is associated with relaxation and peace of mind?

Did you know that Proust’s famous madeleine was soaked in a linden infusion to soothe Aunt Léonie at night and help her sleep?

The vital role of sleep

Sleep is defined as “the lowering of the state of consciousness that separates 2 periods of wakefulness. It is characterized by a loss of vigilance, a decrease in muscle tone and a partial conservation of sensitive perception” (Inserm).

Slow wave sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep are cycles that alternate throughout the night, with the former allowing for greater recovery and regeneration, and accounting for around a quarter of sleep time. Sleep has an impact on numerous biological metabolism, immune defenses and skin, as well as memory and concentration. The brain produces toxic waste which is eliminated during sleep. No sleep, no elimination!

Over the past 50 years, we’ve lost 1h30 of sleep, which has consequences for body and mind. And then it’s a vicious circle… the more stressed we are, the less well we sleep, and the less we sleep, the more stressed we are…

The sleep panoply

Dine light, avoiding or moderating alcohol. Before you crawl into bed, here are a few tips to try:

  • A hot bath or shower, savoring every second
  • A hot drink with "La Poudre Zéro Souci", our Detox & Glow Beauty Supplement,  concentrated in linden blossom and sapwood, lemon balm, burdock, vitamin B6 and magnesium. It relaxes and promotes sleep, detoxifies the body and makes the skin glow. What’s more, it’s a delicious drink!

  • A spritz of Eau qui Enlace, the wonderful fragrance created by Francis Kurkdjian, takes you for a stroll under an avenue of linden trees in bloom in the middle of June. A neuroscientific study has proven that it brings joy, relaxation and comfort – just what you need before going to sleep, right?  In fact, some of you use it as a pillow mist, in addition to skin scent! Sweet dreams guaranteed !

  • Check that your headboard is positioned to the north, a basic rule of feng shui, and that the lighting is diffused and subdued.

  • In winter, it’s easier to go to bed early… Night falls quickly, it’s cold, and the bed is a real refuge. Take advantage of this by trying to go to bed earlier: the hours of sleep at the beginning of the night are the best, the most recuperative. And no, don’t spend 1 hour on your screens – their blue light disrupts your biological clock! Instead, pick up a good book … and the icing on the cake, a delicious hot water bottle, which is a wonderful comfort.

  • Once you’re lying down, try relaxing breathing exercises, such as alternate breathing: block the right nostril with your thumb and breathe in through the left nostril. Then exhale through the right nostril, blocking the left with your thumb. Alternate the two until you feel relaxed and close to sleep.

  • Meditation: practice “body scan”, which TiL loves because it improves sleep quality! The idea is to focus your attention on each part of your body, from your little toe to your head, while feeling every inch of your body. This relieves stress and anxiety, and makes it easier to fall asleep.

Sleep is a third of our life, so we might as well get it right! And if sleep is essential for the body and psyche, it’s also the best beauty secret for the skin ☺️

Rested, it looks more beautiful and fresh, features are relaxed, dark circles are filled in and the whole face regains its radiance.
